US open women s final 2009

The US open won by Kim Clijsters in her third tournament after a gap of 2 and half years of retirement.

This amazing thing has happened 18 month after the birth of her daughter. The unseeded, defeated Belgian beat No. 9 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 7-5, 6-3 to become the first mother to win a Grand Slam title since Evonne Goolagong Cawley at Wimbledon in 1980. Clijsters is important championship second - who also won at Flushing Meadows in 2005, his last appearance at the Open.

The 26-year-old Clijsters has not even played enough matches to be found, and needed an invitation to enter the tournament. She is not the first woman in the top 10 in the WTA ranking by winning the US Open.
