Shakira Biography

Shakira Isabel mebarak Ripoll is Colambian born singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer and philanthropist. She was born on February 2, 1977, in Barrajquilla, Colombia.

Her father is a Lebanese-American immigrant, and her mother was born in Colombia in Italian and Spanish decent. Shakira began her musical career at age 12 and quickly captured fans throughout Latin America. She won the 2001 Best Latin pop Grammy for his album "MTV Unplugged."


Shakira Isabel mebarak Ripoll is well known as the Sakira. Shakira means "grateful" in Arabic. It is the feminine form of the name Shakir. Her second name, Isabel, is also her paternal grandmother, meaning "my God is my oath", "My house of God" or "my God is abundance", and her name is still only a name given to Spanish Elizabeth. Her middle name family name Ripoll is Catalan. She spent much of her youth in Barranquilla, a city in northern Colombia. Shakira is also known for his sharp intellect and has performed well in intelligence tests.

After achieving superstardom throughout Latin America, Shakira became the greatest female Latin pop crossover artist since Jennifer Lopez broke down the doors of English success. Known for his aggressive approach, with influences of rock, Shakira maintained an extraordinary degree of creative control over their music.

Especially for a female artist, she wrote and co-wrote most of his own material, and in the process gained a reputation as one of the lyricists of Latin music's most ambitious poetic. When it launched its first English material in late 2001, became an instant pop sensation, thanks to its unique poetic sense and a sexy video image built on her hip-shaking belly-dance moves.
