Norman Borlaug dies at 95

Norman Borlaug was died of cancer in Dallas on Saturday,who was the genial scientist-pacifist.He was 95.

Borlaug began at Texas a & M in 1984, after working as a scientist in a program that introduced scientific methods of preventing famine in Mexico according to the university.

He was known as the father of the "green revolution" that transformed agriculture across varieties of high yield crops and other innovations, contributing to more than double global food production between 1960 and 1990. Many credit experts from the green revolution to prevent world hunger during the second half of the 20th century and perhaps save the lives of 1 billion.

 

In 1963, Borlaug was named head of the newly established International maize and wheat Improvement Center in Mexico, where he trained thousands of young scientists. Borlaug retired as rector in 1979 and returned to university teaching, first at Cornell University and Texas A & M, which gave him an honorary doctorate in December 2007.

He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2006, according to the website of the university.
